I was born in Causeway Green in January 1949. There has always been a question of who my father was, but I've now had a DNA test done through Ancestry DNA and finally I have something to go on. I am at least 50% Polish! I remember the Hostel at Causeway Green and I know that my mum was working there between 1947 and 1949 and she used to attend dances there. We used to play on the ruins of the hostel when we were children, building seats and tables from pieces of asbestos. It was great to work with, easy for a child to break and build thing and I've never had any after effects from that, thank goodness! So I'm now adding two and two together and am pretty sure that my father was a resident there in 1948 when I was conceived. So now I'm finding things out about what brought the Polish people there, what they were like, a little of their customs and so on. I've had 70 years of not knowing my roots and I've got a whole lot to catch up with as quickly as possible. Thank you for a fascinating site. I've ordered a copy of the book by Zosia and can't wait for it to arrive. If anyone else has memories of the hostel I'd love to hear them.
