Hi I have just found the website and this forum, my name is Carol and I am the daughter of a Polish Displaced person named Stefan Makaruk. He came to England after the war as a part of Operation Westward Ho, which was a scheme of the British government to replace some of the male labour force who had been lost during the war. He had to live where he was told and work where he was told and report to the local police station every week. He moved around the Country from West Wratting, Cambs to Wakes Colne, Messing and Birch in Essex. I was fortunate to obtain a copy of his alien registration card from The Essex Record Office in Chelmsford, Essex which listed every place he had worked and lived from the time he arrived in Britain until the time he married my Mother Vera Dorothy Tracey in 1953. He even had to get permission to do that! I wonder if any one has any further information on him (unlikely I know) or where he stayed during this period. Maybe someone remembers him even more unlikely but I am the eternal optimist. Many thanks Carol
