Hello,
my parents and my brother and three sisters lived in the camp. i was born there. we left for america in december of 1956. i would love to see any photographs anyone has , my parents have passed away a long time ago, and my brothers and sisters are trying to hold on to this memory, we never want to forget fairford camp and the families that lived there. i have some pictures that i want to send to this website and have them put on, maybe someone willl remember us and give us any information about my parents. they always talked about the war and england.
i'm also on a mission for my brother from Colorado , he's the oldest, when we left england we put our schooll books, he had his comic books and all our family pictures were in this package. it was shipped to america, the catholic charties were supposed to give us this package when we came over. we never received this package, my brother in colorado has cancer, he is fighting for his life, they have stopped research on him and have the hospice and counselor going over to talk to his family. the one favor he asked me to do for him that would make him very happy was to locate this package if possible. i have run out of ideas on where to search , if anyone can help me, please, this would make him so happy , it would complete our legacy.
Our Names: Basia Gorniak , matthew, krystyna, stanislawa, lucyna Gorniak. parents names: Alojzy and Stefania Gorniak we lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey with our uncle:Henryk Puc, thank you Basia Anna Teresa Gorniak Albuquerque

Hi Basia I have just managed to log onto my account so sorry about the delay in replaying. You may not remember but we used to live next to your 'barak' - my father, mother, sisers Teresa & Danusia. Last saturday 30th May 2009 a commemerative plaque was unvailed at the site of the camp in the presents of lots of dignatories and people who lived in the camp. Anyway if you e-mail me at AdamSilarski@hotmail.com I will send you all the info. Best wishes Adam

Best wishes Adam Hi Adam, Not sure why my sister didn't reply - my name is/was Krysia - I was the oldest girl .... to tell you the truth I don't remember much about the camp - I remember the school and Mr. Fierla (don't know why - maybe because he was scary/mean) - remember the playground where I hit my little sister Lucy in the head with one of the wooden swings - remember the area where we had chickens (I remember my mother chopping the head of one) - I remember the 'bathrooms'/ washrooms at the end of a long (it seemed long at the time) walkway ... I remember the movie 'theater' - and the processions - I remember the farms nearby and walking alone for it seemed like miles .... I still can't find the area where the camp was located on a map - I know my older brother visited England many years ago and took many pictures of the area - but never shared them with the rest of us. The only people I remember are the Grydzmacher's (not sure of the spelling) - I stil have a picture of my first communion with Stanley (I think that was his name) and have a picture of his mom and dad. Do you still live in England? Are you on Facebook by any chance - all my sisters are on it plus my younger brother ..... it would be wonderful to be in touch with someone from that time so long ago ..... And yes I checked out that site about the memorial - so glad to see it after such a long time. Christine Gorniak Aurora, Colorado, USA

Adam, Just realized the date on my sisters post - our brother Matt (mieciu) died on April 25, 2008 - just a few days after .... It has taken a while for us to absorb/reconcile with this ..... I will let her know that you had replied. Christine Gorniak

My fault not visiting this site for some time- Promise to view weekly. The Gornik family live next door to us in the Nissen huts and we used to be friends. Ks Czapski used to teach us with a religious fervor and visit us quite often. Stasiu Kozak again we were friends as we lived in the officers huts next to the Rzezniks, Janicki & others. Waiting to hear from anyone - more to share

My name was Teresa Maszka I was born at the Fairford camp as was my brother Edward . We lived there for a few years with my mum and dad and my eldest sister Mary . I remember Father Chapski...he was a fearsome fellow with a mission. I remember the Nissan huts we lived in. I recently went back to Fairford and got an opportunity to see the commemorative plague that sits where the camp used to be. It is all now fields.

Hi, My father was at Fairford and Lilford, sadly he passed away on June 17th 2013 aged 77 (Zygmunt Smolicz). A great goal keeper for Orleta and also a brilliant basketball player. In addition to this i attended the unveiling of the 50th anniversary of the closure of the camp where a plaque is now placed. I do have some photographs of Fairford camp and also the American base in the 60,s where my father worked.I currently collect WWll Polish Militaria and complete research for people.
Anyone interested in sharing thoughts - please let me know.
Regards Marek

Teresa - there are a few that still remember but you are correct - we are all scattered ... my family left in 1956 - my mother and brother are the only ones that ever went back to visit. The rest of us don't even live close enough to see each other. I often wonder what life would be like if we had stayed in England ... I live 1800 miles away from my sisters and realize now that I am too old to travel and will probably never see them again. I can only 'see' what others post online .. and pretty soon that too will be gone. Some memories come back from long ago - but they are few ... both my parents are long dead, my older brother died six years ago ..
