hello everyone, Unfortunately I lost my father in October. Now I am trying to retrace his life as much as I can. Does anyone have any information about a polish school in Lilford, Northants? He attended this school from 1953 - 1957. I have tried the internet and the county council but they don't have any records of a school. I would love to hear from anyone that may be able give me some more info on this school
Hi Mandy, I am afraid I do not know much, but I understand that Lilford was a school for Naval apprentices. I think I may know some of them - I will try to get some information for you. Subsequently the Lilford site was used by the Polish Scout movement in the UK. I went to a cub camp there in 1957 and then attended a World Jamboree of Polish Scouts in 1966 for the Polish "Millenium" celebrations. Tadeusz
Hi Mandy, my condolences. I was in the same class as your dad in Diddington (Hants) and then in Lilford (Northants). They were Polish Secondary schools. I left in 1955 but the rest went on till 1957. We lived in Nissen huts. I have several photos with Jurek (George) on them and would be happy to share them with you. The last I heard, he sang with the Ave Verum Choir (I understand they practise at the Polish Church Hall in South Norwood). I have a copy of the CD they recorded, there is a fly sheet with it with Jurek in the photo. Rysiek Konop is also in the photo - he was also in our class at school. If you read this and would like to get in touch with me, I'm on email@example.com.
You can find more about the Polish Schools incl. some photos on: firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if you google "Kurdaj Tadeusz - Polish resettlement camps in the UK 1946" you'll find Jurek there.
