I have come across some photos belonging to my mother identifying the place the photos were taken as West Chiltington dated 1946/7. Her name was Irena Zabarowska and she joined the Polish Home Army in 1944. She was captured by the Germans during the Warsaw Uprising in August 1944 and taken to a forced labour camp in Leipzig. When the American troops relieved the camps she was re-located to a Polish medical unit in Senigalia, Italy. She was a trained nurse and served as an officer there until she was re-located to England in 1946 arriving in West Chiltington via Liverpool. I’m not sure how long she stayed at West Chiltington but was recommended by a Major Round to apply to re-train as a nurse at Ashford Hospital, Middx (1947). There she met my father and had three sons. I was planning to visit West Chiltington and wondered if there was a museum in the village where I might be able to fill some gaps and share some archive material.
