Could anyone tell me if the Resettlement Camps were solely for 'families?'
If this was the case! Where were single men, or men awaiting the arrival of their familes accomodated?
Thanks Alan

The men arrived in the UK in 1946/7 they were placed in disused MOD camps waiting for their families and preparing for civilian life. After demobilization and the arrival of their families many of the camps changed their status and became civilian family camps. A small number of single men, mainly those who found work locally, stayed but most were sent were there was work, mainly in the coal mining areas. Unencumbered by family responsibilities they found private accommodation or stayed in working men's hostels. The MOD also had camps were single men lived and worked, Long Marston in Warwickshire MOD Central Engineers stores was on of them.
